Neste is partnering with Flow Festival for the sixth time to support the event’s sustainability agenda. This year the collaboration also covers an invitation for the festival artists to take a stand to protect the environment. Flow Festival, held in Suvilahti, Helsinki from 9 to 11 August 2019, is a carbon-neutral event where emissions are minimized by engaging in broad environmental collaboration.
Neste and Flow Festival, two forerunners in sustainable solutions, collaborate to promote environmentally-friendly practices in music events and everyday life. As part of this year’s collaboration the partners introduce a new concept, the Sustainability Rider. It offers a sustainable alternative to traditional artist riders, and encourages artists to make environmentally-friendly choices.
Neste also provides Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ for Flow Festival to enable festival’s transportation and electricity production with reduced emissions.
“Neste and Flow share ambitious climate targets, and this collaboration is a prime example of sustainable choices that we can offer to large events, such as Flow Festival. We need all the possible ways to tackle the climate crisis. I’m happy that we could provide our sustainability expertise to introduce the Sustainability Rider for the artists while continuing to offer our Neste MY Renewable Diesel to reduce the festival’s greenhouse gas emissions,” says Sirpa Tuomi, Marketing Director at Neste.
“We are once again very happy to work closely together with Neste to reduce the festival's carbon footprint and encourage festival artists to take a sustainable stand. Sharing responsible values with our partners, artists as well as festival goers makes Flow Festival a global forerunner in sustainability matters. Neste MY Renewable Diesel has again this year a significant role to play in reaching Flow’s emissions reduction targets,” says Milla Valjus, Flow Festival’s Marketing Manager.
With the Sustainability Rider, the artists can request events to pay attention to recycling, the offsetting of aviation emissions, environmentally-friendly accommodation and transportation options as well as to the reduction of disposable products, such as water bottles. The rider is a ready-to-use code of conduct that artists can add to their existing riders and thus, promote sustainable practices in concerts and other events. In addition to the environmental protection, the Sustainability Rider has also been inspired by the Inclusion Rider that has been making the rounds within the movie industry.
Neste also provides Neste MY Renewable Diesel, produced 100% from waste and residues, to Flow in order to power the festival in a sustainable manner. Neste MY reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% as well as helps improve the air quality on the festival grounds as the use of renewable diesel helps reduce odors and particulate matter in the immediate vicinity.
