Neste Corporation, Press Release, 5 October 2021 at 8 a.m. (EET)

Neste will expand the availability of windshield washer fluid dispensers by introducing them at 27 more Neste Express stations during the fall 2021. Once the expansion has been completed, automatic Easy Fill dispensers will be available at a total of 45 stations around Finland, meaning that motorists will no longer need to purchase plastic packages to refill their vehicles. With the expansion, Neste makes this more sustainable option available to a larger number of consumers and reduces the amount of plastic waste by up to 80,000 packages annually, corresponding to nearly 40 large waste pallets full of plastic waste per year.

“We’re working to further improve the customer experience and respond to our customers’ requests for additional automated services in which sustainability plays an important role. Last fall, we introduced the first 18 automatic Easy Fill dispensers in the Helsinki metropolitan area, and the positive feedback has encouraged us to expand their availability to other parts of Finland. When motorists use a dispenser, they don’t need to estimate how much windshield washer fluid they may need in advance or evaluate its suitability for the weather conditions in each season. Half-empty packages will no longer be forgotten in the car and they do not end up in mixed-waste waste containers, either,” says Tytti Stranding, Marketing Manager, Marketing & Services at Neste.

In addition to the Helsinki metropolitan area, Easy Fill dispensers can now be found at the following locations in Finland: Turku, Tampere, Hyvinkää, Hämeenlinna, Järvenpää, Salo, Ylöjärvi, Nokia, Karkkila, Pirkkala, Vihti, Lempäälä and Raisio. In addition, an Easy Fill dispenser for heavy vehicles will be piloted during the fall for the first time at the Neste Truck+ station in Tampere, Finland.

Less than half of Finns sort their waste while on the road

In the spring 2021, Neste conducted a survey on waste sorting with 1,000 Finns* in cooperation with K Group and Lassila & Tikanoja. According to the results, less than half of the respondents sorted their waste while on the road. 15% of the customers using service stations reported that the majority of their waste consisted of plastic waste.

“Through our station network, we want to reduce the use of plastic waste where possible. Finnish motorists** are willing to choose their windscreen washer fluid based on its environmental qualities, either by purchasing a package that contains less plastic or using a dispenser. The improved availability of the Easy Fill dispensers helps motorists reduce plastic waste, which also makes their daily lives easier in terms of waste sorting. We are also contributing to increasing the overall waste recycling rates at our stations in cooperation with K Group. The Neste K Linnatuuli circular economy pilot station is a good example of this,” Stranding explains.
