Neste has been included in the Corporate Knights 2022 Global 100 Index of the most sustainable companies in the world for the 16th consecutive time. Neste has been included in the index for longer than any other energy company in the world. In 2022, Neste placed 24th in the index and first among its industry peers.

In the 2022 index, Corporate Knights introduced a new methodology in clean economy indicators that made Neste’s ranking change from previous years. Corporate Knights classifies Clean Revenues and Clean Investments in line with their Corporate Knights Clean Taxonomy. The new methodology weighs the absolute share of Clean Revenues and Clean Investments and the performance against peers equally. Previously, the score was based on the performance against peers.

Corporate Knights analyzed 6,914 companies against global industry peers and Neste was one of the companies to make it to the top 100. Neste was assessed under the Refining, petrochemicals and basic organic chemicals peer group with 160 companies. Neste was ranked as the best in the industry.

“We are proud to be included again in the index, which is an acknowledgement of Neste's sustainability efforts and achievements. In 2021, we made great progress in our strategic transformation to become a global leader in renewable and circular solutions. We continue to set high standards for sustainability and in 2021, we broadened our sustainability vision, extended our climate commitments to include Scope 3 emissions and set the ambition to make Porvoo the most sustainable refinery in Europe by 2030. Placing on the index gets more and more demanding every year, as companies strengthen their sustainability agenda to ensure sustainable operations for the future. It should encourage every company to set the bar high and work even harder to reach their sustainability goals,” says Minna Aila, Senior Vice President, Sustainability and Corporate Affairs at Neste.

The Global 100 Index is an annual ranking of corporate sustainability performance compiled by the independent consultancy Corporate Knights. The ranking is based on an assessment of 23 sustainability indicators (KPIs) ranging from environmental performance indicators to resource management, employee management, financial management, clean investment and clean revenue as well as supplier performance.
