Netcom AB awarded umts license in Norway

NETCOM AB AWARDED UMTS LICENSE IN NORWAY New York and Stockholm - November 29, 2000 - NetCom AB ("NetCom", "the Group") (Nasdaq Stock Market: NECS), a leading pan-European telecommunications company, today announced that Tele2 Norway AS has been awarded a license from The Ministry of Transport and Communications Systems)network, offering bandwidths of up to 2 Mbps. Modern Times Group (MTG AB) will work in coperation whit Tele2 Norway AS to develop content for the service. Tele2 Norway AS was one of seven applicants for four Norwegian UMTS licenses in August 2000. Lars-Johan Jarnheimer, President and CEO of NetCom AB stated: "We are very pleased with the award of this UMTS license as it confirms the strength of our application and more importantly, it is an acknowledgment of our price leading position in the provision of fixed telephony and internet services in Norway. We look forward to replicating this status and driving competition in the mobile sector. The UMTS network will facilitate the development of a wide range of broadband services and we anticipate a rapid roll-out of the network throughout Norway. NetCom now has two third generation UMTS licenses, in Finland and in Norway, and we look forward to a positive outcome to our license application in Sweden on the 16th December." The Norwegian cellular market currently consists of 2 GSM network operators and more than 10 service providers, including Tele2.
