nDanville Medical Network awarded
The nDanville Medical Network in the United States of America has received the Founders Award from the ICF (Intelligent Community Forum).
ICF is a New York-based organization that studies the impact of access communication technologies and this year’s Founders Award had the theme ‘Health in the Intelligent Community’.
Danville is located in Virginia, USA and is a community with approximately 43,000 inhabitants. The city of Danville has built a fiber optic network, which extends to more than 125 miles, which enables high speed internet transport services to schools, government and businesses.
nDanville is the Medical Network which connects Danville Regional Medical Center with approximately 50% of the area’s medical facilities. The network’s high performance fiber uses 100 Mbit/s and Gigabit connections based on PacketFront’s end-to-end solution. The advantage is that patient information and medical records are immediately available for all connected medical facilities.
Louis Zacharilla, co-founder from ICF explains the nomination of Danville with the following ‘Danville represents the future because they have elegantly figured out how to use the technology that exits, innovate upon it when necessary and apply it to the lives of residents. ‘
‘By end of 2011 more than 90% of all medical facilities in Danville are to be connected which implicates intensive operational savings as well,’ says Jason Grey, the Broadband Network Manager of Danville Utilities.
This is an example how healthcare services in a rural area have been improved by using broadband technology and in this particular case the whole solution is based on PacketFront’s software suite (BECS and SMT- Subscriber Management Tool), which enables the service provisioning.
