FROM CLOUD AND OPEN DATA NEW SERVICES FOR CITIZENS, COMPANIES AND PAs
The Open-DAI European project kick-off meeting is being held in Turin today and tomorrow
It involves 11 partners from 4 countries, coordinated by CSI Piemonte

Known as Open-DAI (Opening Data Architectures and Infrastructures of European Public Administrations), this is a European project whose aim is to make data and platforms available for digital public services on cloud computing infrastructures. This means that open data can be used as a starting point to create new applications and services for public administrations, companies and citizens or to provide an information feedback channel to public administrations.
Funded by the European Commission within the framework of the “ICT Policy Support Programme” - Call 2011 of the “Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme” (CIP), the project is set to last 32 months (February 2012 - September 2014), is worth over € 3,200,000 and involves 11 participating partners, including CSI Piemonte, the coordinator of the initiative.
In particular, Open-DAI offers the creation of a platform for the opening up of public data through the use of service-oriented architectures, which will make the downloading and use of information easier and more flexible, enabling new applications and value added services to be created, both by public administrations and by companies, associations or private citizens.
The new services will also be oriented towards use on mobile devices and smartphones (“Apps”), and will cover a wide range of sectors: from transport and info mobility to environmental quality, from localisation services to information for tourism and a new form of communication between citizens and public administrations. It will be tried out in different forms in the four countries involved in the project: Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey. The platform can also be used by private partners, which will be able to contribute to enhancing public services, offering services to the public and therefore opening new market outlets.
“The Open-DAI project gives the Consortium the chance to confirm itself as a leading player in innovation, even in Europe, boosted by collaboration with another two partners from Piemonte, Piedmont Region and Politecnico di Torino, which have long been involved in open data” explained Stefano De Capitani, the General Manager of CSI Piemonte.
