CATCH UP WITH REG VARNEY IN “DOWN THE ‘GATE” (12)
All but forgotten 70’s sitcom DOWN THE ‘GATE (12) is coming to DVD for the first time. Reg Varney’s return to the sitcom world after the wildly successful On the Buses will be released on 8th July 2013, RRP £12.99 courtesy of Network Distributing. The six episodes presented here are the only copies now known to exist of the original twelve.
The bustle and banter of London’s iconic Billingsgate fish market provides the backdrop to the misadventures of porter Reg Furnell (Varney) and his long suffering wife Irene, played by Carry On star Dilys Laye.
Although twelve episodes were made, these six episodes from Series Two come from copies that Reg Varney himself recorded off-air in 1976. Scripts for all twelve episodes are included as a special feature.
