NETWORK ANNOUNCES “THE BRITISH FILM” LINE-UP FOR JANUARY- MARCH 2014

Fans of cult and classic British films are in for a treat in the New Year. UK film and home entertainment company Network is delighted to announce the latest batch of titles under “The British Film” banner. All releases will continue to benefit from new transfers, slim line packaging and an instant play facility. Titles being launched between January and March 2014 are as follows:

20 January

Ealing Studios Rarities Collection Volume 9 £14.99 “Meet Mr Lucifer” (1953), “Cheer Boys Cheer” (1939) “Whom the Gods Love” (1936) and “A Honeymoon Adventure” (1931) make up this four film set from the UK’s most iconic film studios.

Elizabeth of Ladymead (1948) £9.99 A post-war British drama from Herbert Cox starring Anna Neagle, Hugh Williams and Isabel Jeans. Neagle, then Britain’s then biggest box office draw and an acclaimed singer, plays four different women awaiting the return of their husbands from the Crimean War, Boer War, World War I and World War II.

Here Comes the Sun (1946) £9.99 Crazy Gang legends Bud Flanagan and Chesney front a comedy musical about a journalist hot on the heels of a fraudster who has stolen a dead newspaper proprietor’s fortune.

27 January

Edgar Wallace Presents: The Ringer (1952) £9.99 Future Bond director Guy Hamilton creates a compulsive crime thriller about an elusive criminal thought to be dead in Australia but now alive in London. Stars Herbert Lom, Denholm Elliot and Mai Zetterling.

The Man from Morocco (1945) £9.99 Based on a story by Rudolph Cartier, Anton Walbrook is a freedom fighter and Margaretta Scott is a French female agent in a tale about volunteers forced to work in Morocco on a Sahara railway for the Germans.

Petticoat Pirate (1961) £9.99 Charlie Drake and screen goddess Anne Heywood front a comedy about a maritime battle of the sexes.

All Neat in Black Stockings (1969) £9.99 Victor Henry, Susan George and Jack Shepherd star in a saucy kitchen sink drama combining sexual adventure and the harsh realities of dingy, sixties London life.

3 February

Ealing Studios Rarities Collection Volume 10 £14.99 “Let’s Be Famous” (1939), “The Divided Heart” (1954), “His Excellency” (1952) and “Saloon Bar” (1940) are the classic films in this set.

10th February

Guns of Darkness (1962) £9.99 International acting legends Leslie Caron and David Niven star in a tale of courage and the difficulty of human relationships set against the background of a Latin American revolution from director Anthony Asquith.

Q Planes (1939) £9.99 Laurence Olivier, Ralph Richardson and Valerie Hobson star in an Alexander Korda World War II spy drama.

Play it Cool (1962) £9.99 Scouser Billy Fury is the lead in this 1962 box office hit directed by Michael Winner which includes cameos from Bobby Vee, Helen Shapiro and Alvin Stardust.

17th February

The Cracksman (1963) £9.99 Charlie Drake is a locksmith who gets into very hot water when he is recruited by a group of villains in this vintage caper.

Some Will, Some Won’t (1970) £9.99 Leslie Phillips, Thora Hird, Michael Hordern, Ronnie Corbett and Barbara Murray star in a seventies comedy about a prankster who demands his four beneficiaries justify their £150,000 legacies. How will they react to having to step out of character? And what surprises does he have in store for them?

24th February

Slayground (1983) £9.99 Peter Coyote, Mel Smith and Billy Whitelaw star in a revenge thriller about a parent looking to track down the criminals who killed his daughter in a car accident. From the pen of Trevor Preston.

Bang! You’re Dead (1954) £9.99 Michael Medwin plays an innocent man standing trial for murder in Lance Comfort’s potent crime drama.

Ealing Studios Rarities Collection Volume 11 £14.99 Films in this set are “Return to Yesterday” (1940), “Lorna Doone” (1935), “Lease of Life” (1954) and “Calling the Tune” (1936).

10th March 2014

Joey Boy (1965) £9.99 Harry H Corbett, Stanley Baxter and Bill Fraser star in a comedy about a gang of London spivs who decide a tour of duty with the army is better than time at His Majesty’s pleasure.

Edgar Wallace Presents: The Five Golden Dragons (1967) £9.99 Christopher Lee, George Raft and Brian Donlevy are just some of the villainous dragons in a Wallace “Commissioner Sanders’ story with Robert Cummings battling local mobsters in Hong Kong.

The Terrornauts (1967) £9.99 Simon Oates stars in a sixties sci-fi alongside Zena Marshall, Patricia Hayes and Charles Hawtrey.  What could the signal picked up at an observatory be that remind scientist Joe Burke of the noise he heard as a child?

Girls at Sea (1958) £9.99 Guy Rolfe, Michael Hordern, Ronald Shiner and Lionel Jeffries find star in a nautical comedy from 1959.  Look out for national treasure Richard Briers in his first big screen role.

Cat Girl (1957) £9.99 An update of Val Newton’s classic starring scream queen Barbara Shelley in a psychological horror about human relationships, mental conflict and the supernatural.

Robbery Under Arms (1957) £9.99 Brit director Jack Lee and Oscar winner Peter Finch reunite in an Australian western made in 1957 about the Marston brothers and their one last raid before they plan to set off for a new life in America.

The Lady from the Sea (1929) £9.99 Mexican screen siren Mona Goya, future Oscar winner Ray Milland and Marriot Moore star in a romantic drama about a young fisherman’s love for two women.
