“A genuinely moving relationship drama which transforms into a Bournesque action thriller” Alex Hopkins, Beige

“Danger, sensuality and excitement together” David William Upton, So So Gay

UK film distributor Network Releasing will be working with lesbian, gay and bisexual charity Stonewall in a unique partnership centered around the award-winning gay thriller Out in the Dark (15) which opens in UK cinemas on 5 July. This will include an advance preview screening of Out in the Dark on 1 July at Hackney Picturehouse at 8.30pm followed by a Q&A with one of the film’s stars, Nicholas Jacob and Guardian columnist Charles Gant followed by a wider discussion with Stonewall’s international officer Jasmine O’Connor relating to the issues raised in the film.

The directorial debut from Michael Mayer stars newcomer Nicholas Jacob as Arab student Nimr alongside Michael Aloni (Policeman, Infiltration) who plays Jewish lawyer Roy. A gripping story of forbidden Arab-Israeli love sees Nimr rejected by Islamic society for his sexuality and outcast by Jewish society for his nationality.

Tim Beddows, managing director at Network Releasing, said: “We are delighted to be working with Stonewall to raise awareness of the issues in this powerful, award-winning gay thriller. “

Sam Dick, head of policy at Stonewall, said: “Out in the Dark highlights the difficulties facing gay couples living in cross-cultural relationships. It provides a fantastic opportunity for us to debate the issues facing lesbian gay and bisexual people globally and how we in Britain can help them secure gay equality in their own countries and communities.”

Out in the Dark will open at Cineworld Haymarket from 5 July, plus other key cities in the UK.

Out in the Dark made its UK debut at the BFI London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival earlier this year and was screened as part of the Accenture Gala. The film also won the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the Mardi Gras Film Festival 2013.
