Ventura VS906 platform selected to deliver managed radio services

Bonn, Germany, August 23 2012 – MEDIA BROADCAST, Germany’s leading broadcast and media service provider, has selected Nevion’s Ventura IP technology to build one of the biggest terrestrial radio broadcast networks in Europe. As a leading provider of managed media services for broadcasters, service providers and government agencies worldwide, Nevion’s technology provided one of the best solutions for MEDIA BROADCAST, enabling the provider to offer a better service level for its customers, while also helping to significantly reduce operational costs.

Tasked with designing the next generation radio broadcast network, TDF Group member MEDIA BROADCAST was looking for an elegant and cost-effective approach to migrate from a microwave to a terrestrial IP infrastructure. Nevion’s Ventura VS906 hardware and VideoIPath management platform was one of the viable solutions for MEDIA BROADCAST’s needs. With the VS906 offering the IP transport capabilities and with VideoIPath allowing complete manageability of radio services, it meant that combined, the two offered technical advantages with unmatched running costs.

“We’re really pleased we selected Nevion’s Ventura and VideoIPath platforms, and for us, the project marks an important milestone in our partnership,” said Jean-Louis Degoul, category manager for TDF Group France.

“This is a great project for us and has meant we’ve been able to bring something new and exciting to a customer we’ve been working with for many years,” said Thomas Heinzer, corporate strategic project manager at Nevion. “Our managed IP media services will enable MEDIA BROADCAST to provide an enhanced service for their customers – a solution that’s not achievable through any other competing technology.”

Broadcasts will feed to all transmitters across Germany, serving the millions of people that live there. It will help to improve their listening experience and will provide more DAB options as well as provide the option for additional services in the future.

Notes to editor

Added benefits of the Nevion Ventura IP technology will include:

  • True IP point-to-multipoint distribution
  • High availability through Streaming Intelligent Protection Switching (SIPS – patent pending), providing seamless switching on the IP layer
  • Unmatched handling of network jitter and latency requirements

The OPEX required to run the network will be lower than with any other vendor.
