Nevion’s service adaptation modules break new ground in optical conversion at IBC
Expanded capabilities through an SFP approach elevate the Flashlink line
Sandefjord, Norway, August 20, 2012 – Nevion, the leading provider of managed video services for broadcasters, service providers and government entities worldwide, will introduce next-generation optical adaptation modules at IBC (stand 8.B70). Attendees will see enhanced Flashlink solutions that support 3G and 10G with state-of-the-art functionality and versatility through features such as small form-factor pluggables (SFPs).
“Nevion takes optical fiber’s inherent benefits and engineers solutions that provide even greater options for broadcasters,” said Eugene Keane, CTO, Nevion. “These solutions are critical to today’s mixed optical/electrical environments and enable customers to scale their systems as required.”
Embracing SFP technology has accelerated Nevion’s advancement into 10G Ethernet adapters at one end of the scale, and DVI/HDMI adapters at the other. Adding SFP interfaces as the standard optical interface not only provides flexibility in wavelength selection but also takes immediate advantage of a whole host of highly integrated and rapidly expanding third party SFP interfaces leading to even higher levels of integration. This versatility eliminates the costly need to stock spare cards, instead requiring only minimal SFPs to be kept on hand.
With SFP technology already supported by Nevion’s Sublime optical routing series and Flashlink Compact optical converter family, broadcasters now have a whole portfolio of interfacing solutions that offer greater cost efficiency, higher density routing and conversion, and scalability to meet the redundancy and cost parameters of any application.
Nevion advances its industry-leading Flashlink optical transport family with a new solution supporting DVI/HDMI. The SDI-DVI-2/DVI-SDI-2 module provides optical transport of two DVI/HDMI signals, dual 3G/HD/SD-SDI to DVI/HDMI signal conversion, and dual HDMI/DVI to 3G/HD/SD-SDI signal conversion with full monitoring capabilities. Used in a variety of Flashlink enclosures, the module can be deployed easily in any environment from outside broadcast solutions to throw-down boxes and wall mounts.
Nevion’s Flashlink fiber portfolio transports all major broadcast signal formats, including 10GbE with comprehensive time division and wavelength division multiplexing for the longest 3G-SDI reach in the industry over dark fiber and unmatched fiber transport bandwidth. For even more scalable and flexible systems, customers can use passive optical products, saving capital expenditures by deploying exactly what’s needed at any given time. Supporting this capability is Nevion’s new ETH1000-SW-10G, a six-port IP switch with five 1G electrical IP ports and one 10G optical IP port for short, mid and long haul optical interfaces, as well as CWDM. The new 10G-TR is an optical transponder for 10G IP or SDH/SONET signals, converting from short haul optical formats to long haul or CWDM formats.
Nevion’s Flashlink signal conversion platform is modularized in compact housings and managed by a comprehensive software solution. All Flashlink solutions provide hallmark benefits of compact form factors, low resource requirements and industry-high reliability.
