Paris, France – 27 January, 2014. The New Cities Foundation announced that the “Estuaire de la Seine – Territoire de l’Eau” has joined its network of international members.

The Estuaire de la Seine – Territoire de l’Eau is a French, non-profit association created in 2011 by the elected representatives of the Seine Estuary, a territory in Normandy in Northern France. Its aim is to build the region’s attractiveness, economic and scientific development, and to promote the region within France and abroad. In order to do this, the association is building an event program around the theme of water.

This summer, Estuaire de la Seine – Territoire de l’Eau is launching the Global Estuaries Forum, which will be held from June 30 to July 2, 2014. The event will bring together more than 400 global leaders from various sectors including government, business, international organizations, NGOs, academia and the sciences to discuss, debate and build a sustainable and innovative vision for the future of estuaries.

John Rossant, Chairman and Founder of the New Cities Foundation, said: “The New Cities Foundation and the Estuaire de la Seine share an ambition to invent new forms of cooperation among different global public and private players to protect and sustain the great estuary systems of the world. The Global Estuaries Forum this June in Deauville is the perfect place to promote this cooperation.”

Philippe Augier, President of the Association and Mayor of Deauville, said: “Estuaries represent a major challenge for the sustainable development of our land, and of our planet: across the world, the development of major cities is affected by their access to the sea.”

About the Estuaire de la Seine, Territoire de l’Eau association

The Estuaire de la Seine (Seine estuary) is a well-delineated territory consisting of five counties referred to as “pays” (Pays Le Havre Pointe de Caux Estuaries, Pays des Hautes Falaises, Pays de Caux Vallée de Seine, Pays Risle Estuaire and Pays d’Auge) extending across two regions: Upper and Lower Normandy.

Since its creation over 10 years ago, the committee of the Estuaire has been made up of representatives of different political leanings, from all the territories making up the Estuaire de la Seine, in order to work towards its synergy and development.

The elected representatives of the Estuaire de la Seine decided to implement an events-based program, led by Philippe Augier, the Mayor of Deauville, and Edouard Philippe, Deputy Mayor of le Havre. The program is designed to build international visibility for the entire area, enhance its reputation and attractiveness and promote a sense of community across the region. The association Estuaire de la Seine, Territoire de l’eau was set up in December 2011 to make a reality of this ambition, through a combination of events, territorial mobilization and innovation around the theme of water.
