Montréal, February 17, 2016. The New Cities Foundation is pleased to announce that they have appointed Thomas Ledwell as Director of Communications. Ledwell will be based in the Foundation’s new head office in Montréal.

“The New Cities Foundation is delighted to welcome Thomas to lead the Foundation’s communications from our new headquarters in Montréal,” said New Cities Foundation Chairman John Rossant. “His broad knowledge of communications strategy, traditional and new media and of Montréal, especially its social innovators and startup community, will help the Foundation establish its new home in this dynamic, international city.”

A long-time journalist turned communications strategist, Ledwell has extensive experience in the media industry in Canada and the United Kingdom. Most recently, he has worked with communications at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in Montréal as a digital media strategist, coordinating partnerships and presenting a weekly technology column. Previously, Ledwell was a journalist, producer and digital editor with the CBC, the BBC and the Montreal Gazette.

Ledwell holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Journalism degrees from the University of King’s College in Halifax, Canada, where he currently sits on the Board of Governors, and a Master of Science degree from the London School of Economics.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the New Cities Foundation,” said Ledwell. “It is an incredible opportunity to help the Foundation lead the conversation about improving our daily lives through innovation and ingenuity. It is a great pleasure to join this global leader in shaping better urban futures, especially as it establishes in my long-time home city, Montréal.”

Founded in 2010 in Geneva, Switzerland, the Foundation relocated its head office to Montréal in February 2016, located in UQAM’s Pavillon des Sciences de la gestion on Ste-Catherine Street East. The move was supported by Montréal International, Canada Economic Development for Québec Regions, Quebec’s Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie and the City of Montréal.
