New Jersey SEEDS Adds Four to Board of Trustees

Newark, NJ—September 14, 2012—New Jersey SEEDS, a nonprofit organization that changes lives through access to education, announced four new members have joined its Board of Trustees, each beginning three-year terms. The new Trustees are: Janice C. Beckmen; Michael A. Bonarti, Corporate Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, Automatic Data Processing, Inc.; Theodore Lubke, Chief Regulatory Reform Officer of the Securities Division at Goldman Sachs; and Lee Shavel, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, The NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. SEEDS’ four newest Trustees join a 24-member board, along with six Trustees Emeriti.

“SEEDS is enormously fortunate to welcome Janice, Michael, Theo and Lee to New Jersey SEEDS’ leadership ranks,” says Ronni Denes, President of SEEDS. “Though their tenure officially started today, each has spent significant time getting to know our organization, programs, and the young people we serve. Like the board members they join, every one of our new Trustees is committed to providing educational opportunities to New Jersey students, and SEEDS looks forward to a long and successful partnership with each of them.”

Mrs. Beckmen has been actively involved with New Jersey SEEDS since 2008 with her participation in the Educational Policy and Student Affairs Committee and Friends of SEEDS — a committee of volunteers whose activities support and enhance the social, cultural and academic experiences that SEEDS makes available to its students. This fall, she will also join the Board of Trustees of The Pingry School, where she has been active in the parents’ association and volunteered for The Pingry Fund. Mrs. Beckmen recently completed a two-year term as Co-Chair of the Board for BRIDGES Outreach, Inc., which helps the homeless in Lower Manhattan, Newark, and Irvington. She worked in leveraged finance and private equity at Chase Capital from 1992 to 1996 and in the same capacity at The CIT Group from 1996 to 2000. Mrs. Beckmen earned a B.A. in mathematics and chemistry at Duke University and completed her M.B.A. from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

Mr. Bonarti serves as Corporate Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for ADP. He joined ADP in May 1997 as a Corporate/M&A attorney. In June 2010, ADP’s Board of Directors appointed Mr. Bonarti to the role of Corporate Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. Previously, he was a corporate associate with Debevoise & Plimpton for three years and then with Shearman & Sterling for four years. He earned a juris doctorate degree from the University of Chicago Law School and a B.A., magna cum laude in economics with distinction in all subjects from Cornell University.

Mr. Lubke is the chief regulatory reform officer of the Securities Division of Goldman Sachs. He joined the company as a managing director in 2010. Prior to his engagement with the firm, he worked for 15 years at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he most recently led international regulatory efforts to reform the OTC derivatives markets. He was previously responsible for developing central bank policies for payment, settlement and clearing systems, and managing the New York Fed’s Fedwire operations. Before joining the New York fed in 1995, Mr. Lubke was a staff member of the National Economic Council at the White House. Earlier in his career, he was an investment banking analyst at Lehman Brothers. He earned a B.A. in History and Literature from Harvard College and a master’s degree in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.

Mr. Shavel is Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy at NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: NDAQ). Mr. Shavel is responsible for all aspects of financial management at NASDAQ OMX including accounting, financial planning and analysis, investor relations, treasury, internal reporting, corporate operations and risk management. In addition, Mr. Shavel oversees Corporate Strategy, working with the CEO and EVPs to define NASDAQ’s strategic direction, identify business and corporate opportunities and execute M&A transactions. He joined NASDAQ OMX in May 2011 after 18 years at Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he was Americas Head of Financial Institutions Investment Banking and prior to that, Global Chief Operating Officer and Head of Finance, Securities and Technology in the Financial Institutions Group. He joined Merrill Lynch & Co. in 1993 after four years at Citicorp in Financial Institutions. Mr. Shavel graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of Finance and a B.A. in English.
