Newcross’ Tom Evans selected for Raleigh International’s Tanzanian Project
Newcross employee, Tom Evans has been selected to join Raleigh International’s 12 week overseas placement in Tanzania. Tom will use his experience working as a Newcross Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to raise awareness of the importance of hygiene and sanitation with care workers whom he will be in direct contact with, to reduce the risk of infection.
Raleigh International is a charitable organisation which focuses on working through, for and with youth to inspire and make positive change in areas such as: water, sanitation and hygiene, using natural resources effectively and building resilience in vulnerable communities. In order to take up this opportunity, Tom will need to raise £1500 by 15 January 2016 which covers flights, accommodation and subsistence for volunteers. Tom has already received a donation of £500 from Newcross Healthcare as well as personal contributions from friends and family members.
Tom Evans, Newcross HCA said, “I first heard about Raleigh International through a friend and I thought it was an exciting opportunity to share my skills and expertise by training others.
“I want to use the knowledge I have gained working with Newcross to raise awareness of the importance of hygiene and sanitation with local care workers in Tanzania to help reduce the risk of infections which is one of the leading causes of diseases and deaths, especially in low-income countries.”
Stephen Pattrick, Newcross CEO commented, “We are delighted to be supporting Tom on his new venture. I am sure that with his skills he will make valuable contributions to the carer’s he will be working with in Tanzania.
