HOUSTON—More than 450 financial representatives, sponsors and employees of Houston-based broker-dealer, NEXT Financial Group Inc. (NEXT), attended the company’s National Educational Conference (NEC) from April 27 to May 1, 2016, in Chicago.

The conference reinforced the longstanding commitment NEXT representatives have to their clients’ financial success, as well as the firm’s unwavering confidence in their ability to service clients effectively and efficiently.

“Many industry changes have occurred over the last few months, and we wanted to focus our attention on these changes at our national conference,” said Barry Knight, president of NEXT Financial Group Inc. “The keynote speakers we had this year are all financial experts who are also knowledgeable about the DOL Rule and gave a well-rounded perspective on what advisors can expect in the coming months.”

The keynote speakers this year were Bill Lowe, president of Sammons Retirement Solutions, and Dr. Kenneth Kim, PhD. Lowe has not only reviewed the entire DOL Fiduciary Rule document, but has also met with DOL Secretary Perez and DOL staff at the White House to discuss the rule. He discussed his take on the rule, how it will affect the financial services industry and what advisors need to know moving forward. Dr. Kim, who is one of the top 1,000 modern financial scholars, presented a thorough financial perspective on the global economy, as well. In addition, Jason Roberts, founder and shareholder at Retirement Law Group (RLG), a law firm specializing in ERISA and founder of Pension Resource Institute also spoke on the DOL.

“The impact of the DOL rule continues to gain clarity for financial professionals across the country, and NEXT remains confident that our firm will thrive in this new environment,” said Norm Grant, Chairman and CEO of NEXT. “Our back office teams are ready with fee-based transition options and platforms to help our advisors succeed in this changing environment.”
