7 April 2015 - The Yorkshire Region of the Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES) has participated in the fight against heart disease – the UK’s single biggest killer – by making a £3,000 donation to the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

The money was raised during the annual ball and training awards event organised by the B&ES Yorkshire Region, in partnership with training provider Building Engineering Services Training (BEST), at the Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford.

The donation, which was made to the charity’s Yorkshire Heart Centre, will go towards the £23,000 required to purchase a 2D echocardiograph for use at Leeds General Infirmary.  The improved display and three-dimensional imaging offered by this specialised piece of equipment are of particular value in heart valve surgery.

“We are delighted to be working with the BHF, and intend to raise as much cash as possible on its behalf,” said B&ES Yorkshire regional chairman Daniel Ball, of Imtech Engineering Services, based in Ossett, West Yorkshire.

According to Sue Green, the BHF’s fundraising volunteer manager, “Everything we do is intended to make a tangible difference to people’s lives.  The support of organisations like B&ES makes a big difference in raising the vital funds we need in order to do so.”

The Yorkshire Heart Centre performs over 850 cardiac surgical procedures every year.
