The free, online Counselling Directory has introduced a sophisticated new search facility to their website that helps users quickly and easily locate the specialist, professional support they need

22 March 2010 - Counselling Directory (www.counselling-directory.org.uk), the leading directory for counselling advice and information in the UK, has just introduced a new facility that makes it easier for visitors to search for a qualified counsellor or therapist online. The new search mechanism means that users can search for a counsellor or therapist that specialises in the type of distress that is affecting them such as anxiety, depression, abuse or trauma. The facility, which was developed specifically for the directory, includes options such as the type and style of session they require, which could be face to face, telephone or online. Users can also add relevant words, a popular one being ‘free’, which would then narrow the search to a list of counsellors who offer free sessions in their chosen area. Another useful function of the mechanism is that users can enter their postcode so that only nearby counsellors and therapists will be listed. Emma Hursey, co-founder of Counselling Directory explains, “Each individual searching for a counsellor or therapist has different needs; the new facility on our website now makes it much easier for users to refine their search so that they can locate exactly the right professional help they require. “At its simplest level they might just want to see what kind of advice and guidance is available within a few miles of where they live – simply by entering their postcode that is possible”. Counselling Directory is a free online service which connects members of the public with qualified counsellors throughout the UK. The directory lists counsellors’ full profiles, details the type of counselling they offer, fees charged, along with information such as their professional background and where they are. All counsellors listed on the directory must be a member of a professional body such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or have a relevant counselling qualification and insurance cover.
