As winter 2010 proves to be one of the coldest in the last 50 years, homeowners are facing much higher bills for gas and electricity - but there are many ways homeowners can reduce this expenditure and a free booklet from the Heating Helpline is a good starting point

2 March 2010 – Winter 2010 has proved to be one of the coldest on record and could end up being the coldest in over 30 years. To stay warm householders have had to use much more gas, oil and electricity to run their heating systems resulting in bills that on average could be 25% higher than winters of the recent past. The Heating Helpline launched last September and managed by the Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association (HVCA), offers a whole range of free advice on all aspects of heating and energy use in the home including money saving solutions. All of this invaluable information is contained in a free booklet entitled Your Guide to Home Heating published by the Heating Helpline. Packed with useful information, the guide covers all aspects of energy-efficient home heating, explains the importance of energy saving at home, provides information on renewable technologies and the need for regular maintenance of boilers. It also offers solid advice on ways to reduce energy bills and on how to avoid rogue traders together with a list of essential contacts. Homeowners can also receive regular updates and advice via the Heating Helpline Twitter site - http://twitter.com/HeatingHelpline. As family budgets are stretched to their limits, the Heating Helpline Twitter page provides up-to-the minute tips on ways that homeowners and tenants can save on utility bills.
