16 May 2014 – The Yorkshire Region of national trade association the Building & Engineering Services Association (formerly HVCA) have again raised a significant sum for local charity Sailfree, operating from Otley Sailing Club.

Sailfree works under the national umbrella of Sailability, the charitable arm of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).  The aim of the charity is to provide sailing experiences to people with all types of disabilities.  These sessions give disabled people the chance to enjoy the freedom and independence of being out on the water in specially adapted dinghies.

Each year Otley Sailing Club provides approximately 1,000 such sessions, run by volunteers, with all costs funded by donations.

B&ES Yorkshire comprises over 110 locally based companies all engaged in providing building engineering services to the construction sector.  The fundraising took place earlier this year as part of their annual regional training awards and black tie charity event, which was held at the Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford.  £2,000 was raised for Sailfree, with the cheque just presented to Otley Sailing Club Commodore Paul Karran.
