Recognition for hardworking young apprentices at the recent HVCA North East Region Training Awards – an event that also raised over £11,000 for a very worthy north east charity.

23 December 2010 – The North East Region of the Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association (HVCA) have just presented their annual training awards to some very hardworking trainees and young apprentices. The evening was also a spectacular fund raising success with over £11,000 raised for Newcastle’s St Oswald’s Hospice. Sponsored by Yorkshire Pegler Ltd, the award ceremony was held as part of the region’s annual dinner dance, held at the Ramside Hall Hotel in Durham. Awards were presented by HVCA President Martin Burton, ably assisted by Brian Smith from Pegler and HVCA regional chairman Terry Collins. Front row (left to right): Michael Chambers of Balfour Beatty Engineering Services Ltd (Third Year H&V Merit Award); Gregory Roe of Durham County Council (Best Second Year H&V Apprentice); Conor Rowan of Rotary Northern Ltd (Best Engineering Technician); Dominic Betteridge of Lorne Stewart PLC (Best Fourth Year H&V Apprentice and winner of the George Coase Trophy for best overall apprentice). Not in the picture is Matthew Bennett of Shepherd Engineering Services Ltd (Best Third Year H&V Apprentice). After the awards, chairman Terry Collins drew the raffle, the proceeds of which went to his chosen charity – Newcastle-based St Oswald’s Hospice. The generosity of companies in providing cash for the raffle prize fund, together with excellent raffle ticket sales, meant that £5,000 was raised on the night. Through a process called The Big Give this sum can be doubled and, with gift aid taken into account, it means that St Oswald’s will be getting a donation of £11,400. Ends
