MORE THAN A CHANGE OF NAME

B&ES reinforces the message that their name change earlier this year was not merely a cosmetic exercise but properly reflects the evolved position of their members and the nature of the multi-skilled and integrated building and engineering services work they deliver to clients.

28 September 2012 Some months have now passed since the Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association (HVCA) rebranded to become B&ES, the Building & Engineering Services Association, on 1 March 2012. The name change was universally popular amongst the association’s membership, with a 90% plus approval rate. Hardly surprising given that the vast majority of its members no longer described themselves as “h&v contractors” but providers of a wide range of building and engineering services.

B&ES says that even now customers and clients do not, perhaps, fully appreciate the ever-widening range of services provided by their members that go way beyond the historical core of the association’s work – heating and ventilating – to encompass the full spectrum of building engineering services and of course renewable technologies.

Sue Sharp, newly elected president of B&ES, comments, “No one disputes that nowadays construction is a complex and difficult process; one that requires a great deal of expertise in delivering the broad range of engineering services including those based on renewable and environmental technologies.

“More than ever clients want to work with those building and engineering specialists who are best equipped to deliver and install integrated systems and have the full range of skills and resources to meet the requirements of complex integrated projects.

“That’s the message we want to convey to clients – the change of the Association’s name was not simply a cosmetic exercise but properly reflects the evolved position of our members and the nature of the multi-skilled and integrated work they are already doing. We want to heighten clients’ awareness that B&ES is now the leading trade association for all specialists operating in integrated building and engineering services and renewable technologies.

Mrs Sharp added that “It is equally important to emphasise that our decision to re-brand was just one element in a re-positioning programme designed to ensure that the Association remains relevant and “fit for purpose” in the years and decades to come. This programme included key elements such as:

  • refreshing the Association’s member services package in line with the developing marketplace;
  • enhancing its influence with Government and other key stakeholders;
  • cementing existing relationships with other industry organisations that share its goals, aspirations and values;
  • and providing a “natural home” for all building engineering services specialists.”

B&ES believes that it is still the only trade association in the UK that operates a regime of third party inspection and assessment of members’ technical competence, commercial capability and customer service. B&ES says this means that members can demonstrate the highest possible professional standards, so that clients can be reassured that their project will be completed on budget, on time and to the most demanding standards and specifications.

B&ES have recently published a new ‘corporate brochure’ – for a copy please call 020 7313 4900 or visit the new B&ES website at http://www.b-es.org.
