REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD GET YOUR BOILER SERVICED THIS SUMMER

B&ES, the Building & Engineering Services Association, who operate the free consumer advice service the Heating Helpline, recommend getting your boiler serviced or replaced during the summer months when heating engineers are far less busy – and prices are lower.

22 May 2014 It’s a fact that boilers that are not regularly serviced are more prone to breakdown, and if you have ever had your boiler break down in the middle of the winter you will know that there are few things more miserable than being in a house or flat with no hot water and no heating.  Yet winter is when heating engineers are rushed off their feet – dealing with breakdowns and repairs – so getting one to come out “instantly” while you shiver with cold is not always possible and it can take days before they can fit you in.  This is just one reason why B&ES, the Building & Engineering Services Association who operate the free consumer advice service the Heating Helpline, recommend getting your boiler serviced or replaced during the summer months when heating engineers are far less busy – and prices are lower.

Roderick Pettigrew, Chief Executive of B&ES advises, “Heating engineers are much less busy during the summer months, so not only is it a good time to call in a professional heating engineer but you can also normally expect to pay around 20% less for a boiler service.

“It’s worth emphasising that a regularly serviced boiler is not only far less prone to breakdown but it will also be much more efficient, and with the very high energy prices we incur in the UK a well maintained boiler can deliver important energy savings.

“Of even more importance still is the safety implications of a boiler that has not been regularly serviced, or at least checked by a qualified engineer for some time – around 40 people in the UK still needlessly die every year from preventable carbon monoxide poisoning caused by defective domestic gas appliances and poorly ventilated systems.  And thousands more are admitted to A&E with suspected CO poisoning.

“So why wait until the middle of winter?  Take advantage of lower summer prices and heating engineers that are more readily available by getting your heating system serviced in the summer months.”
