Nextory acquires the leading local streaming service in France
The book app Nextory, one the largest streaming services for books in Europe, now acquires the French streaming service Youboox. The acquisition builds a strong foundation for Nextory’s future expansion in France and other French speaking countries.
France is the 10th market that Nextory enters and the streaming app Youboox is one of the largest digital players in the French book market. The company was founded by CEO Hélène Mérillon and is an established partner to the publishing community. Youboox will continue to operate in its current form, offering a large French quality catalogue of 400,000 audiobooks, e-books and digital magazines. The company also has strong partnerships with major large companies such as banks, airlines, hotels and major
French telcos.
– We’ve been looking for a way to expand to France for a while and when the possibility appeared to acquire Youboox we decided that this is the right way for us to go. We have found great synergies between our two companies. Nextory’s technical expertise and digital know-how and Youboox’s experience and local knowledge is a perfect fit. This acquisition further establishes Nextory on the global map as a large and important player. We are very ready to challenge the industry and other big players, says Shadi Bitar, CEO and founder at Nextory.
– I’m proud of the success the Youboox team has accomplished, creating the leading all-in-one service for audiobooks, e-books and digital magazines in the French market. Today, we take this adventure to the next level by joining Nextory, to develop a leading European streaming service for books. With the combined skills of Nextory and Youboox, we’ll continue to offer unique new reading experiences to the French consumers and take our collaboration with trusted partners to the next level, says Hélène Mérillon, CEO and founder of Youboox, who will stay on as CEO at Youboox/Nextory France following the acquisition.
Rapid international expansion
Since the start in Sweden in 2015, Nextory has grown at a rapid pace. Over the past three years, the app has been successfully launched in Finland, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain.
The parties above have agreed not to disclose the acquisition price for Youboox.
