New teeth on the same day Prof. Per-Ingvar Brånemark develops new method for dental implants in cooperation with Nobel Biocare The new, patented method called Brånemark Novum means that an edentulous patient can have new teeth in place on one and the same day. During the past three years, a total of 96 patients have been treated by Prof. Brånemark and his team with very good results. A scientific study of the clinical results is soon to be published. The patient has surgery performed in the morning under local anaesthetic. Three titanium fixtures are inserted into the jawbone and a plate is attached. At midday the construction of teeth can start on the titanium implants and the patient can go home in the afternoon with new teeth in place. The treatment time at the dentist is halved and the cost of treatment is reduced. In the fall, the test phase will be increased by approx. 10 clinics outside Sweden. In Sweden, the Norrbotten County Council, where nine patients have already been treated, will participate. The aim is to make the new method available for larger patient groups around the world. Nobel Biocare is planning to start a commercial launch in the fall of 2000 at the earliest.
