Nobina first in the Nordic region to have climate targets approved by SBTi

Nobina and the public transport are in many ways part of the solution to several of society's challenges – from climate change to mobility in society. Nobina is now taking further steps in its sustainability work by joining the Science Based Targets initiative, SBTi. As a result, Nobina will be the first Nordic public transport company in the bus market to have its targets approved by the SBTi.

The Nobina Group, with operations in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark, has committed to reducing its emissions from fuel consumption by 50 percent per passenger kilometer, Well-to-Wheel, by 2030 from a 2019 base year, and to reducing its emissions from Scope 1 and 2 by 50 percent in absolute terms during the same period. Targets that, according to the SBTi, are in line with the Paris Agreement.

“Every year, more than a million people travel sustainably in one of our buses and every day we make it possible for people to leave their cars at home. At the same time, the transport sector accounts for 30 percent of carbon dioxide emissions globally. A major challenge, but also an opportunity to be part of the solution, to be able to offer society fossil-free and, to a greater extent, emission-free transport where we travel together”, says Henrik Dagnäs, CEO of Nobina.

“A climate target approved by the SBTi shows that we are serious about our sustainability work, support and proof of our work and direction going forward. Not only in the emissions from our own vehicles, but from the entire business and value chain. Although we are proud of our work to reduce climate impact and emissions from the transport sector, we are far from finished”, says Jenny Karlsson, Head of Sustainability at Nobina.
