In a tender process conducted by the Helsinki region public traffic authority (HSL), Nobina has won two contracts to operate urban and regional traffic in north area of Vanda and between Helsinki and Helsinki-Vanda airport region. The total value is estimated at about SEK 260 million over a seven-year and a two-year period respectively. HSL also announced that Nobina is being awarded an environmental bonus of about SEK 1 million.

The new traffic contract in the north area of Vanda extends over seven years, with the possibility of a three-year extension. The contract is approximately 60 per cent of the value of the two contracts. The contract regarding traffic between Helsinki and Helsinki-Vanda airport region extends over two years, with the possibility of a two-year extension. The new traffic contracts start in August 2017 and cover 27 buses of which Nobina will invest in 8 new buses. Under the contracts, there is a possibility to increase compensation through a high customer satisfaction level during the contract period.

-          I’m grateful that HSL has given us renewed vote of confidence to operate traffic and for the environmental bonus we have been awarded. The contracts strengthen our position as market leader in the Helsinki region, says Tom Ward, Managing Director, Nobina Finland.

The award decision can be appealed no later than 27 December 2016.

HSL’s decision to award Nobina an environmental bonus of SEK 1.06 million is a result of Nobina’s offer to switch from diesel to biodiesel during 2017. Nobina’s switch from diesel to biodiesel covers 680 000 liters of biodiesel, and will result in a reduction of 80 per cent in carbon dioxide emissions, 30 per cent in particulate emissions and 10 per cent in nitrogen oxide emissions compared with using normal diesel. The environmental bonus is a part of HSLs’ environmental programme of reducing emissions from public transport and thereby contributing to an improved air quality.
