Nokian Hakkapeliitta winter tyres took a double win in Finnish Tekniikan Maailma’s comparison test
The Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 studded tyre and the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 non-studded winter tyre resumed the previous winters’ remarkable test success in the winter tyre test by leading Finnish motoring magazine Tekniikan Maailma (17/2015) and the biggest Russian magazine Za Rulem (9/2015). The champions of the world’s most demanding winter weather gained top spots in their classes.
Nokian Tyres’ studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 also took first place in the comparison test by motoring magazine Tuulilasi (12/2015). So far, both Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 and Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 have achieved over 20 first places in motoring magazine tests published around the world.
- The Nokian Hakkapeliitta winter tyres, designed for the demanding Northern winter, are proof of our unique expertise in developing even safer winter tyres for extreme winter weather. The new innovations can be felt and seen in the everyday lives of all road users. During the year, we test over 20,000 winter tyres at our own Ivalo Testing Center “White Hell”, north of the Arctic Circle, says Product Development Manager Juha Pirhonen from Nokian Tyres.
Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 – Easy to control even under extreme conditions
Tekniikan Maailma (17/2015) states that, on ice, the studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 is the best tyre on the market. “Its braking grip and traction are excellent and the tyre is easy to control even under extreme conditions. The Nokian also offers reliable grip and steering on snow”, TM writes. The calm nature of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 excels on bare asphalt and the tyre will not surprise the driver with a sudden loss of grip. Rolling resistance is extremely low, which translates to good fuel efficiency.
The Hakkapeliitta 8 was the only studded tyre to receive five stars in the final evaluation. This winner of multiple tests came out on top in all of the subtests run on ice. The studded tyre test included a total of 12 winter tyres. The tested size was 205/55 R16.
Amazing grip on ice, stable and easy to steer
In the test by Tuulilasi magazine (12/2015), the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 was the best of the pack on snow and ice alike. “190 well-placed studs guarantee that the Nokian has amazing grip on ice. The strong grip in corners is especially memorable. On the snowy forest route, the Nokian feels stable and easy to steer”, the test team from Tuulilasi states.
In addition to state-of-the-art safety characteristics, the Hakkapeliitta 8 had the lowest fuel consumption in the test. The low interior noise further improves driving comfort. Together with two of its competitors, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 was the quietest tyre in the test. Tuulilasi tested a total of eight studded tyres of the size 205/55 R 16.
Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 – Balanced and logical in any weather, lowest rolling resistance in the tests
The excellent winter grip gave the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 first place in Tekniikan Maailma’s (17/2015) non-studded tyre comparison test. “The Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 is the best non-studded tyre for icy and snowy roads. The grip during braking and acceleration is good, but the best part is that the tyre retains control even under slippery conditions and after the grip limit has been passed”, TM writes.
Safe and comfortable driving is emphasised by the tyre's extremely low rolling noise and the lowest rolling resistance in the entire test. The comparison test included 8 non-studded winter tyres of the size 205/55 R16.
Hakkapeliittas also took test wins in Russia
The legendary champions of winter weather also took top places in the comparison test by Za Rulem (9/2015), Russia’s biggest motoring magazine. The magazine tested both studded and non-studded tyres, and Nokian Hakkapeliittas gloriously conquered both categories. The magazine tested tyres of the size 175/65 R14.
Out of the studded tyres, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 offered the best grip, low fuel consumption and logical and precise handling on different roads, Za Rulem says. The test team also recommends the Nokian Nordman 5. Excellent grip on snow and the lowest fuel consumption helped secure third place for the tyre in the test.
According to Za Rulem, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 offers extraordinary grip on ice and excellent handling on all road surfaces. Its fuel consumption was also the lowest in the test. The Nokian Nordman RS was commended for its precise and safe behaviour on snowy roads.
Frontrunners in safety - Nokian Hakkapeliitta winter tyres
Multiple test winner Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8
The new stud technology and multiple innovations take the winter grip, driving safety and comfort of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 to a new level. Magazine test wins around the world are proof of the tyre's excellent winter characteristics.
The test-winning Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 has 50% more studs than the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 7. Despite the higher number of studs, the tyre meets the strict environmental requirements in the stud legislation. Together with the Eco Stud 8 concept and the new stud division, the eco-friendly next-generation anchor studs provide the tyre with excellent grip during braking and acceleration as well as added wear resistance and driving comfort.
The Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 is now available in even more sizes, from 13 inches up to 21 inches. Most of the sizes are marked XL for the highest possible load capacity. The range also includes Flat Run capable special products.
Northern comfort – Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2
The latest Nordic non-studded member of the Hakkapeliitta product family, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2, has also won several tyre tests in motoring magazines. The tyre’s ice grip, in particular, is substantially better than that of its predecessors. This has been achieved with the Nokian Cryo Crystal Concept. The tyre’s rubber compound contains microscopic, multi-edged, crystal-like particles that are diamond-hard. In a way, the crystals act as built-in studs by gripping the surface with their sharp and hard edges.
The surface rubber compound maintains its effective grip properties even while the tyre’s groove depth approaches the four-millimetre minimum limit that is considered essential for winter safety. As the tyre wears down, the eco-friendly crystals that have been evenly divided into the compound come up and activate a grip reserve.
The lightly rolling non-studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 is the number one choice for the environmentally aware driver. The increased size selection of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 now includes winter products in sizes from 13 to 21 inches.
