A Prestwich primary school is hoping their pupils will become some of the fittest and healthiest in the land after joining a programme designed for engaging all children with physical education.

Sedgeley Park Community Primary School enlisted sports and fitness coaching provider Fit4Schools to help the school’s pupils get into tip top shape.

“We are excited with this partnership, which shows how highly we regard each individual child’s fitness and welfare as part of their overall education with us,” said Helen Forrester, Assistant Head of the school.

“We believe children need to have high quality physical education and exercise as there are many studies showing how physical fitness has a huge impact on health and well-being, which has positive knock on effects for other aspects of their lives,” she added.

Mrs Forrester said the way the programme has been designed to help all pupils and not just the most athletic ones, was one of the main factors for joining.

“The programme is built so it is fully inclusive for all pupils, without them being compared to peers, and helps engage those who have previously shied away from such activities,” she added.

Mrs Forrester added that promoting a positive culture of health in schools is vitally important in current Britain.

“We are already reaping the benefits of this partnership and seeing our youngsters embrace healthy living and exercise as a natural way of life, which they will carry into adulthood,” she said.
