In 1989, 33 years ago, the Berlin Wall fell—freedom also came to the famous watchmaking town of Glashütte: Like nowhere else, watchmaking skills have been taught and passed on here for more than 175 years. People here understand their craft. Now it enjoys world fame again. An interesting fact: In West Germany, lawyers were already working in the 1960s to protect the “Glashütte” designation of origin for watches, long before the reunification.
