Chairman Atle Eide, of Nordic Aqua, has today given a presentation at NASF in Bergen, where it is pointed out that the global demand for Atlantic salmon is expected to significantly exceed the supply available globally, given the lack of area and the major biological challenges the salmon industry faces.

Eide emphasizes in his presentation that land-based production, based on proven Norwegian technology, represents an alternative to capturing much of the growth that increased consumption offers. Eide particularly notes that perhaps as much as 500,000 tons of salmon are transported by air to reach the market. This product can be produced more environmentally friendly in the market, and locally produced Atlantic salmon will also be much fresher when it reaches the consumer.

Eide further states that building land-based facility outside of Norway is about utilizing and exporting Norwegian technology and expertise, while simultaneously building significant market insight.

Nordic Aqua is a Norwegian publicly listed company that produces Atlantic salmon on land in China, which is the world's largest salmon market. The technology used comes from Akva Group in Bryne and the feed is developed by Skretting in Stavanger. Both companies are strategic partners and owners in Nordic Aqua.

Nordic Aqua is starting to harvest fish over 5 kilograms for the Chinese market in the coming weeks, after producing fish over a 24-month period.

The company is led by Ragnar Joensen, CEO.
