MeritaNordbanken is first with payments by WAP telephone in Sweden As the only bank in Sweden, Nordbanken offers its customers the possibility of paying bills and approving electronic invoices via a WAP telephone. The new service will be launched June 26. Nordbanken is focusing further on mobile services through launching of WAP and SMS as options in Solo, the bank's Internet service. The WAP technology facilitates carrying out bank services on the Internet using a mobile telephone. Accordingly, customers gain access to Nordbanken's Internet services in Solo wherever they are. "If you have a WAP telephone, you can carry out most of your bank transactions from your summer cottage, car or boat," says Ingemar Borelius, Nordbanken's Director of Private Payments Sweden.. "Among other transactions, you can pay your bills, approve electronic invoices and make account transfers. MeritaNordbanken has already had this service operational in Finland since the past autumn, with highly successful results. "MeritaNordbanken was first in the world to offer WAP services," relates Ingemar Borelius. "Now the Swedish market can also benefit from this new technology." "With the new SMS service you can quickly receive a statement of balance and listing of your most recent transactions in the form of a text message on the telephone display of your GSM mobile telephone," says Ingemar Borelius.
