  • Crime drama stars two Icelandic Eddan Award winners
  • ‘Sisterhood’ produced with Sagafilm (NENT Group’s ‘Stella Blómkvist’)
  • NENT Group to premiere at least 40 original productions in 2021

The latest Icelandic Viaplay Original from Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group), the Nordic region’s leading streaming company, is the psychological crime drama ‘Sisterhood’. The six-episode series stars Lilja Nótt Þórarinsdóttir (George Clooney’s ‘The Midnight Sky’), Jóhanna Friðrika Sæmundsdóttir (‘Happily Never After’) and Eddan Award winners Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir (‘Trapped’) and Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir (‘Woman at War’). ‘Sisterhood’ will premiere on NENT Group’s Viaplay streaming service in 2022.

Who was really responsible for a young girl’s disappearance in Iceland 25 years ago? Ambitious police detective Vera (Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir), dissatisfied with the original investigation, is led to an unlikely trio of successful and respectable women. Nurse Karlotta (Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir), minister Elisabet (Lilja Nótt Þórarinsdóttir) and chef Anna Sigga (Jóhanna Friðrika Sæmundsdóttir) have long lived in the shadow of a terrible crime – and will go to any length to stop it coming to light.

Filippa Wallestam, NENT Group Chief Content Officer: “The new wave of Nordic noir often reaches beyond ‘whodunnit?’ to ask ‘why?’. Like our smash hit ‘Those Who Kill’, ‘Sisterhood’ unfolds from the perpetrators’ perspective, creating an unsettling and compelling experience. High-quality local storytelling is key to our international expansion, and this unique show will be a milestone in establishing Viaplay’s position among Icelandic streaming audiences.”

‘Sisterhood’ is produced with Sagafilm, the production company behind ‘Stella Blómkvist’, NENT Group’s first Icelandic Viaplay Original. A critical and commercial success, ‘Stella Blómkvist’ received eight Eddan Award nominations and was recently renewed for a second season.

Viaplay launched in Iceland in April 2020 and offers local and international series, films and kids content. Viewers can also stream live sports such as Formula 1 motorsport, NHL ice hockey and Bundesliga football, with UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League football to come from autumn 2021 and Icelandic national team football from 2022.
