NOMI - Planning program for rutile production (TiO2) in Engebøfjellet

Report this content

Nordic Mining has launched a planning program for rutile production (TiO2) in Engebøfjellet in Naustdal municipality, Sogn and Fjordane. The project consists of mining operations with a benefication plant at Engjabøen. Following resolution in Naustdal municipality 27 June the planning program is submitted to various governmental institutions and interested parties with deadline 14 September 2007. The planning program has also been submitted for public inspection. Simultanously, Nordic Mining announces kick-off for planning regulations for the Engebø project and consequential disposal of tailings in the Førdefjord.

When statements have been received, a so-called scoping process will be arranged, and prioritized areas for study will be identified. Environmental aspects of disposal of tailings in the Førdefjord are expected to be specifically focused. Nordic Mining has contracted NIVA (Norwegian Institute for Water Research) to coordinate the environmental impact studies which are planned to be accomplished by the end of 2008.

The recent submission of the planning program and kick-off of the planning regulation process are according to Nordic Mining's time schedule for the Engebø project.
