Status of exploration work - Significant potential in Ecuador

Report this content

The processing of more than 1,200 soil samples and 84 rock and stream sediment samples from the Los Santos concessions in south Ecuador is now finished. Combined interpretation of geological maps and chemical analysis of samples have documented 6 conspicuous anomalies of Cu, Au, Ag, Zn and Pb. The largest Cu-Au anomalies are followed for 1,000 to 2,000 metres as 100-300 metres wide anomalous belts running in a NNW-SSE direction.

Preliminary interpretations that require confirmation in detailed follow-up studies imply that the mineralizations are associated with a granitic (dioritic to monzonitic) intrusion and may be classified as a porphyry copper-gold system not unlike the well-known Bingham Canyon deposit in Utah, USA.

Further work will include soil sampling in the northern part of the area around the Los Santos Monzonite, geological mapping and in situ rock sampling in order to consolidate an ore-forming model. This work will be followed by analysis of samples, GIS (geological information system) interpretation and refinement of model. This will be basis for drilling of promising targets.

"It is promising to see the first documented signs of interesting mineralizations in the Los Santos concessions. For the first time, we have documented that the concession area has a significant potential, and we will establish a working program for further confirmation of the potential," comments CEO Ivar S. Fossum.

Other exploration areas

Røysivangen - Preliminary drilling report
Nordic Mining is currently carrying out exploration drilling for gold at Røysivangen in Eidsvoll municipality, and have drilled 3 core holes in the range of 90-100 meters. The holes are indicating sulphide mineralized alteration zones. The drilling program has been extended with a fourth hole which will be drilled in April, with subsequent sampling preparation and analysis.

Laksådalen - Possible tungsten/molybdenum area
The Geological Survey of Norway (NGU) has conducted preliminary chip sampling across two of the 8 tungsten-molybdenum skarn zones from the Laksådalen-Bjellåtind area.  The main W-Mo skarn at one of the localities was too steep for systematic chip sampling and will be drilled in 2008.  The other occurrence yielded  0.25 wt% WO3 over 4 metres.  The analysis is preliminary and will be followed up with a more extensive sampling program in 2008.

Målvika - Previous tungsten indication not confirmed
NGU has carried out fieldwork in Målvika during the second half of 2007, consisting of campaigns with in situ analysis and physical rock samples. The results indicate that the Målvika skarn zone is a minor tungsten deposit with a possible mineable ore tonnage of 750,000 tonnes with a grade of 0.44 wt% WO3, hence not confirming estimations from previous analysis.

Sampling of the surrounding granite massif indicates, however, a tungsten content of 121 ppm reflecting an extreme enrichment of tungsten in the granite magmas. This result suggests that there is a possibility of finding additional tungsten deposits in the Målvika region.

"Nordic Mining's interest in tungsten is unchanged", says CEO Ivar S. Fossum. "There are clear indications that the area we are exploring contains interesting tungsten deposits. Consequently, we will continue the work in Laksådalen and probably expand the field area in the Målvika region."
