Nordlo in Skåne is committed to attracting more women into the IT sector: “We want to lead by example”
Through partnerships with upper secondary schools and higher vocational education programmes, Nordlo in Skåne aims to help strengthen future IT expertise while encouraging more women entering the industry to choose Nordlo.
“We want to be the best workplace for women pursuing a career in IT,” says Anna Mårtensson, Head of Service Desk at Nordlo Syd.

At Nordlo’s service desk in Skåne, Sweden, Anna Mårtensson serves as Head of Service Desk, responsible for delivering support services to the company’s customers across the region. However, a large part of her commitment also focuses on securing the future supply of IT skills.
For almost ten years, Nordlo has collaborated with upper secondary schools and higher vocational education providers in locations including Ängelholm, Helsingborg and Malmö through internships, work-based learning placements and participation in programme advisory boards.
“We try to contribute the perspective of real-life business needs. IT is no longer only about technology; it is also a service profession where communication and customer interaction are extremely important.”
Nordlo is actively involved in the Technical Operations Specialist higher vocational programme delivered by EC Utbildning, where Anna has served on the programme advisory board for the past ten years. This enables Nordlo to help shape the programme content to better reflect the needs of employers.
“I was involved in launching the programme ten years ago. The IT industry is a fantastic sector to work in, and I want to help develop it. At the same time, we want to demonstrate that women belong in IT too.”
The collaboration also includes hosting work-based learning students, delivering guest lectures and arranging site visits. For Anna, it is also a way of making the industry more accessible to a wider audience.
“We have worked extensively to encourage more girls to consider IT education and to showcase the opportunities available.”
For Nordlo, the partnership is also an important part of the company’s long-term recruitment efforts in the region. Many students gain their first experience of working life through these placements, and several have later gone on to join the company.
“Work-based learning gives us a unique opportunity to bring in talented individuals who also help us understand their newly acquired skills and perspectives. Every year we welcome at least four work-placement students, and they are greatly appreciated by everyone here.”
Anna believes there is an ongoing need for educational institutions and businesses to work closely together to ensure skills remain relevant in an industry that evolves rapidly.
“Technology is constantly developing, and security issues are becoming increasingly important. That is why education providers need to stay close to working life and understand what organisations will actually need in the future.”
“We also find it highly rewarding to support and give back to the local community,” says Anna Mårtensson.
