North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA), the largest single specialty anesthesia and perioperative management company, is proud to announce that Jana Janco, MD, was recently elected as the delegate of the American Medical Association (AMA) Women’s Physician Section (WPS). Dr. Janco will begin serving her two-year term at the conclusion of the AMA Annual Meeting on June 11, 2014. She is the second female and first anesthesiologist to serve as delegate.

In this new role, Dr. Janco will be testifying on issues of importance to women physicians and on women’s health issues. To address these subjects, Dr. Janco along with the WPS governing council, will participate in various initiatives such as educational programs, research funding and the Inspirational Physician Award. In addition, Dr. Janco will be representing the WPS section in the AMA House of Delegates, the principal policy-making body of the AMA.

“It is essential that women physicians have a seat at the table and serve as champions in providing a voice to women’s health care issues,” said Dr. Janco. “As the WPS delegate, I look forward to being the representative in this arena to bring the critical challenges we face as women to the forefront and develop solutions to overcome them. I believe together, there are no limits to what the WPS can accomplish.”

The AMA Women Physicians Section (WPS) consists of the more than 67,000 female members of the AMA and aims to increase the number and influence of women physicians in leadership roles and to advocate for and advance the understanding of women’s health issues. The WPS identifies issues and communicates through its network of WPS Liaisons, women leaders who have been identified by their state or specialty societies to serve in this position.

Dr. Janco is an anesthesiologist at North American Partners in Anesthesia. She received her M.D. from St. George’s University and completed her anesthesia residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2012. During her residency, Dr. Janco collaborated on many research articles and authored a chapter, ‘Don’t Drop the Ball: Standardizing the Intra-Operative Handoff’ in the publication Anesthesia Unplugged. Dr. Janco serves as NYSSA District 4 President as well as Chair of the Young Physicians Section of the Medical Society of the State on New York. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Janco is currently enrolled in Washington State University Executive MBA program.
