Dr. Sonia Szlyk Examines Role of Collaboration in Bundled Payment Initiatives at the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Annual Meeting
North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) announced today that Director of Regional Anesthesia for NAPA’s mid-atlantic region, Sonia Szlyk, MD will serve as a featured speaker at the 26th American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) Annual Meeting. Dr. Szlyk will be co-presenting with Ryan M. Nunley, MD, Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Washington University School of Medicine during the feature symposia titled, “Collaboration and Outcomes in the Era of Bundled Payments.” The event, attracting over 2,000 attendees, will take place November 10-13, 2016 at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, TX.
“The era of bundled payments has arrived and will increasingly impact care delivery,” said Dr. Szlyk. “Collaboration between surgeons and anesthesiologists is vital to ensure the highest quality care within a value-based system. Incorporating regional anesthesia as part of an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathway enables multimodal pain management that minimizes opioids and maximizes attainment of physical therapy goals. Our patients benefit from optimal outcomes within a cost-conscious environment.”
Dr. Szlyk’s symposia will take place Thursday, November 10 from 2:30-4:30 pm. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the necessary collaboration between orthopaedists and anesthesiologists in order to thrive in the new era of bundled payments. Topics of discussion will include:
- Review the evolution of bundled payments in the arena of orthopedic surgery
- Discuss how enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathways utilizing regional anesthesia provide a strategic advantage to deliver exceptional care within a successful bundled payment program
- How to implement factors critical to a successful regional anesthesia program – safety, efficiency, and reliability
- Overview of the outcome metrics used to measure the success of a bundled payment program
Sonia Szlyk, MD has served as a clinical instructor in regional anesthesia at Stanford University Hospital in Stanford, CA. She is an accomplished lecturer and educator specializing in ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks and catheters with specialization in pain management modalities for joint replacement, sports medicine, general and cosmetic surgery.
