NAPA CEO Dr. John Di Capua & Mid-Atlantic Division CEO Dr. Vincent Vilasi to Discuss Anesthesia Industry Consolidation Trends at the AIAPM

North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA), the nation’s leading anesthesia and perioperative management company, announced today that CEO John Di Capua, MD, will serve as the keynote speaker at the 2015 Advanced Institute for Anesthesia Practice Management (AIAPM). NAPA’s Mid-Atlantic Division CEO Vincent Vilasi, MD, MBA, will also be addressing the conference audience as a featured speaker presenting to anesthesia billing and management experts. The event will take place April 17-19, 2015 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. NAPA will also support the event as an exhibitor.

Dr. Di Capua is scheduled to speak on Friday, April 17 at 8:10 a.m. His keynote titled, “The Rapidly Changing Anesthesia Landscape and Predictions for the Future” will focus on the significant growth trends in the anesthesia industry. Specifically, Dr. Di Capua will explore the impact on the specialty of anesthesia due to health care reform and consolidation, the evolution of integrated delivery networks, CMS PQRS and the investment market. In addition, Dr. Di Capua will give the audience a glimpse into the future with his forecasts, which include hybrid operating rooms, the continued shift to the care team model and cost shifting to a tech-savvy, data-driven population.

Dr. Vilasi will be speaking on Saturday, April 18 at 7 a.m. during a practice management breakout session. His presentation titled, "One Group's Journey through the Acquisition Process: Practical Considerations for Navigating the Tough Decisions" will provide the audience with a first-hand account of an anesthesia practice joining a larger entity. Dr. Vilasi will offer the audience his knowledge and expertise on the acquisition process in this highly competitive industry. Key takeaways in the presentation will include information on the types of transactions, group characteristics affecting valuation, partnerships with a larger group, perils and pitfalls as well as post-transaction considerations.

John F. Di Capua, MD, trained in anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by fellowships in pain management and cardiothoracic anesthesia. Board certified in anesthesia and pain management, Dr. Di Capua joined the North Shore–LIJ Health System in 1994, where he sits as the Peter F. R. Walker Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at North Shore University Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center and the recently opened Hofstra-NSLIJ School of Medicine. He is integrally involved in the issues of perioperative operational management, clinical staffing models and lectures internationally on how anesthesia departments can provide quality and operational value to hospitals. Prior to his current positions, Dr. Di Capua was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School.

Vincent J. Vilasi, MD, MBA, holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at George Washington University and his residency in anesthesia at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Prior to joining NAPA, he served as president of FOAA Anesthesia Services, the largest anesthesia group in Virginia with more than 210 providers administering 150,000 anesthetics annually. FOAA merged with NAPA in February 2014. Dr. Vilasi is board certified in both anesthesia and internal medicine.
