NAPA Physicians Honored By The Hofstra North-Shore LIJ School of Medicine Chair of Anesthesiology Named In Honor of Dr. Peter F. R. Walker
Dr. John Di Capua Appointed to the Peter F. R. Walker, MD Professorship of Anesthesiology
Melville, NY, June 7, 2011 – Dr. Peter F. R. Walker, Vice President of Anesthesia Services and co-founder of North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) has been recognized for his career achievements by The Hofstra North-Shore LIJ School of Medicine with the establishment of the Peter F.R. Walker, MD, Professorship of Anesthesiology. The professorship will support research, education and patient-care programs carried out by its appointed recipient, Dr. John Di Capua, Vice President of Anesthesiology Services for the North Shore –LIJ Health System and Deputy CEO and Chief Medical Officer of NAPA Management Services Corporation.
With over 40 years of healthcare experience, Dr. Walker is well known for being a leader, a devoted member of the North Shore-LIJ Health System Medical Staff and a physician that holds to the highest standards of healthcare. After receiving his medical degree at Boston University, Dr. Walker has spent his career spreading his work ethic and philosophy of “treating patients like you would like to be treated yourself”, amongst such prestigious healthcare organizations ranging from Massachusetts General to New York University Hospital and the North Shore-LIJ Health System, where he continues to play an invaluable role in the growth of perioperative services. In addition to Dr. Walker’s roles and responsibilities within these hospital organizations, he has utilized his leadership and vision to help create NAPA, the largest anesthesia management company in the United States, as well as co-founding the Anesthesia Business Group, a national data warehouse granted Patient Safety Organization Status by the Federal Government’s Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
The recipient of the Professorship is John F. Di Capua, MD. Dr. Di Capua trained in anesthesiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital, where he moved onto fellowships in both Pain Management and Cardiothoracic Anesthesia. He then went on to develop a procedural pain management program which led to him becoming co-founder of the Pain Management Center at North Shore University Hospital at Syosset, a representation of a regional best practice in procedural pain management. Dr. Di Capua is currently the Vice President of Anesthesiology Services for the North Shore-LIJ Health System and Chairman of Anesthesiology at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) and LIJ Medical Center, where he supervises all clinical, academic, research and quality activities in Anesthesiology at the North Shore-LIJ Health System. As Associate Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology at The Hofstra North-Shore LIJ School of Medicine, Dr. Di Capua will also be serving on the Admissions and Curriculum Committees of the Medical School.
Both Dr. Walker and Dr. Di Capua’s contributions throughout their careers have proven to make a significant impact in the healthcare field as these visionaries have utilized their leadership qualities, clinical skills and knowledge to ultimately improve the overall quality of patient-centric anesthesia care. The Peter F.R. Walker, MD, Professorship of Anesthesiology will serve as an extension of their passion, dedication and commitment towards enhancing the healthcare experience.

The Hofstra North Shore LIJ School of Medicine, established by Hofstra University and the North Shore-LIJ Health System, is the first allopathic (MD) medical school on Long Island in more than 35 years. Opening its doors in June 2010, the new medical school combines Hofstra's academic infrastructure and expertise with North Shore-LIJ's clinical and graduate medical education programs as well as incorporates research conducted at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, the research arm of the health system.
