NAPA Regional Director Dr. Rafael Cartagena and ProCare Pain Solutions President Dr. Fred Davis to Speak at Becker’s ASC 23rd Annual Meeting
North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) announced today that Regional Director Rafael Cartagena, MD will be a featured speaker at Becker’s ASC Review 23rdAnnual Meeting – The Business and Operations of ASCs. Dr. Cartagena will co-present with clinical partner Brad Smith, MBA, FACHE, FHFMA, CMPE, CEO of the Virginia Eye Institute in Richmond, VA. In addition, Fred Davis, MD, president and co-founder of ProCare Pain Solutions (a NAPA company) will also be addressing the audience of ASC owners, operators and physicians as a featured panelist. The event will take place October 27-29, 2016 at the Swissotel in Chicago, IL. NAPA will also support the event as an exhibitor at booth #47.
Dr. Cartagena and Mr. Smith are scheduled to speak on Friday, October 28 at 1:25pm. Their presentation titled, “Innovative Strategies for Improving ASC Safety and Satisfaction” will focus on how ASCs can differentiate their facility to meet the stringent requirements for safety, quality, efficiency and cost while positively impacting patient and surgeon satisfaction.

Rafael Cartagena, MD is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology. He received his medical degree from Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Cartagena fulfilled his residency at the Hospital of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Davis will be participating in a panel discussion titled, “The Future of Anesthesia and Pain Management in ASCs” on Friday, October 28 at 4:05pm. The panel will focus on the current trends and future opportunities for anesthesia and pain management in ambulatory settings. The other panelists include Jayen Patel, MD, Physician Owner, Tulsa Ambulatory Procedure Center; Jaymin Shah, RPh, DO, Medical Director, Mercy Pain Centers; Scott Letourneau, MD, Medical Director, Bend Surgery Center.
According to Dr. Davis, “We must move beyond individual cases and migrate towards a clinical practice model of caring. This means adapting a whole person approach to chronic pain care, which integrates interventional treatment while also addressing the psychosocial, functional and medication management aspects of care for populations of patients.”
Fred Davis, MD is a nationally recognized pain management specialist whose expertise encompasses a broad range of pain disorders. Dr. Davis is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, American Board of Anesthesiology and American Academy of Pain Management. Dr. Davis received his medical degree in 1977 from Rush University College of Medicine in Chicago. He completed his postgraduate internship in Arizona at Tucson Hospitals Medical Education Program and went on to complete his residency in anesthesia at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. In addition, Dr. Davis is the Clinical Associate Professor in the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University.
