NAPA’s Dr. Sonia Szlyk Explores Regional Anesthesia in the Era of Value-Based Care at the Orthopaedic Summit 2016

North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) announced today that Director of Regional Anesthesia for NAPA’s mid-Atlantic region, Sonia Szlyk, MD will serve as a featured speaker at the Orthopaedic Summit 2016: Evolving Techniques - Sports Medicine, Arthroscopic Surgery & Arthroplasty. Dr. Szlyk will be presenting four lectures related to regional anesthesia over the course of the premier conference, which is attended by over 1,000 healthcare providers. This is the fourth consecutive year she will serve as a featured speaker at the event, which will be held December 7-10, 2016 at The Mirage in Las Vegas, NV.

In this presentation, Dr. Szlyk will discuss the latest regional anesthesia modalities integral to enhanced recovery after surgery protocols for total hip replacement and hip arthroscopy.

During this presentation, Dr. Szlyk will focus on the ultrasound-guided adductor canal block as an optimal pain management technique for ACL repair.

Dr. Szlyk will explore regional anesthesia techniques that facilitate more complex cases to be performed on an outpatient basis and improve OR efficiency – all while offering patients the pain management they deserve.

Symposium Presentation: Pain Management for Shoulder and Knee Surgery in the Era of Bundled Payments: Key Concepts and a Recipe for Success 

Friday, December 9, 12:18–1:18 PM 

Dr. Szlyk will highlight how regional anesthesia improves the patient experience, minimizes opioid-exposure and enables positive outcomes in a bundled payment program. This is a co-lecture with Dr. Hany Elrashidy, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and knee surgery. Dr. Elrashidy will explore case studies related to his patients’ experiences with regional anesthesia.

Sonia Szlyk, MD has served as a clinical instructor in regional anesthesia at Stanford University Hospital in Stanford, CA. She is an accomplished lecturer and educator specializing in ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks and catheters with specialization in pain management modalities for joint replacement, sports medicine, general and cosmetic surgery. She is board-certified in anesthesiology and an active member of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

The 2016 Orthopaedic Summit is the premier gathering of sports medicine, total joint, and arthroscopic orthopaedists across the globe.
