Melville-Based Health Care Company Names New CEO and Interim Managing Partner

North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) and NAPA Management Services Corporation (NMSC), the administrative corporation for NAPA, today announced that John Di Capua, M.D. has been named CEO of NMSC, and interim Managing Partner of NAPA.  Dr. Di Capua succeeds Timothy Dowd, M.D., who has stepped down as CEO and Managing Partner, and will continue as a partner in NAPA.

Dr. Di Capua had previously served as the Chief Medical Officer of NAPA as well as the Deputy CEO for NMSC.  In those roles, he supervised over 1,000 anesthesia providers in 45 hospitals covering over 700,000 anesthesia cases per year.  Board certified in anesthesiology and pain management, Dr. Di Capua joined the North Shore – LIJ Health System in 1994 where he sits as the Peter F. R. Walker Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at North Shore University Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center and the recently opened Hofstra-NSLIJ School of Medicine.

“NAPA and NMSC are outstanding organizations with talented clinicians and administrators dedicated to patient health and the success of our customers,” Dr. Di Capua said.  “I’m looking forward to continuing my work with my colleagues to pursue the significant opportunities to continue to thrive and grow amid substantial industry change.”

Dr. Di Capua trained in anesthesiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by fellowships in pain management and cardiothoracic anesthesia. He was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School for a year before joining NAPA. He is integrally involved in the issues of perioperative operational management, clinical staffing models and he lectures nationally on how anesthesia departments can provide high quality care and operational value to hospitals.

“We thank Dr. Dowd for his years of service as NMSC’s CEO and believe Dr. Di Capua will continue NAPA’s successes,” said Ted Yun, NMSC Board member and Managing Partner of Moelis Capital Partners, based in New York.  “As the preeminent single entity anesthesia and perioperative management company in the nation, we believe NAPA and NMSC are well positioned to provide innovative solutions to the special challenges facing hospitals and other care providers in a post-health care reform environment. With his proven hands-on experience and national leadership, Dr. Di Capua brings significant assets to the organization in a changing health care landscape.”
