North American Partners in Anesthesia’s Michael Simon Concludes Successful Term as President of the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists
North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) anesthesiologist Michael Simon, M.D., concluded his year-long term as the president of the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists (NYSSA) in December 2013. During his presidency, Dr. Simon oversaw all aspects of the society’s activities and was instrumental in furthering its efforts to partner with the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA). Prior to his presidency, Dr. Simon served in various leadership capacities with the NYSSA, including chairing the resident section and serving on the Board of Directors for the past nine years. Dr. Simon will continue to serve on the Executive Committee as Immediate Past President. In that role, he will chair the “Committee on Future Models of Anesthesia Practice”.
As a board-certified anesthesiologist, Dr. Simon has served in various hospital leadership roles including Chairman, Department of Anesthesiology at UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pennsylvania and MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois. He is currently the Chief of Cardio-thoracic Anesthesiology at Vassar Brother s Medical Center located in Poughkeepsie, New York, a position in which he has held since 1998. Dr. Simon is a member of various professional societies including the American Society of Anesthesiologists and American Medical Association.

We will remain at the forefront of organized medicine, ensuring that the patients of New York continue to receive the highest quality, most efficient, physician-led anesthesia care possible.”
Comprised of approximately 4,000 anesthesiologists, the NYSSA is comprised of physicians and scientists dedicated to advancing the specialty of anesthesiology and providing the safest and highest quality patient care to the citizens of New York State. In addition, the society is responsible for hosting the second largest Anesthesia education meeting in the world, the PostGraduate Assembly (PGA), which was recently held in New York City in December 2013.
