North American Partners in Anesthesia to Host Bone Marrow Donation Drive to Benefit James Robins, M.D.
North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) anesthesiologist, James Robins, M.D., has a name that is well known in many communities throughout Long Island, NY. For over 25 years, he has served as an Attending Anesthesiologist at Long Island Jewish Medical Center as well as at Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York– dedicating his life to helping others. In August 2012, Dr. Robin’s life changed drastically when he was diagnosed with lymphoma. Dr. Robins, like many others fighting lymphoma, requires a bone marrow transplant to survive. NAPA will be hosting a bone marrow donation drive in hopes of finding a donor match for Dr. Robins and providing him a new chance at life, as he has for so many others. In addition, the drive will benefit thousands of other patients suffering from various blood cancers and diseases.
This is an opportunity for community members to add their name to the bone marrow registry. Every 10 minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. In that same time, you could take steps to help save the life of someone diagnosed with leukemia or another blood disorder by registering to be a bone marrow donor. The process only requires the completion of a short form, and a cheek swab.
WHO: 18-55 year olds, who are at least 110 pounds and have a maximum body index of 40
