Sonia Szlyk, M.D. Explores the Value of Regional Anesthesia at the 41st Annual Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Meeting
North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA)’s Sonia Szlyk, MD, will be a featured speaker at the 41st Annual Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Meeting, which will be held March 31 – April 2, 2016 at The Roosevelt New Orleans in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Szlyk will present to healthcare providers on the topic, “The Value of Regional Anesthesia in the Era of Bundled Payments” during the event’s unique breakfast symposium on April 1 at 7am.
“The era of bundled payments for total joint replacement has arrived,” said Dr. Szlyk. “Anesthesia providers have a tremendous ability to design Perioperative Surgical Home and Early Recovery After Surgery programs that deliver the highest-quality collaborative care for patients. Regional anesthesia is the most effective non-narcotic pain management modality that enables ambulation after surgery and early return to the patient’s home environment. These key factors ensure exceptional care within a cost-conscious realm.”
The presentation will provide attendees with insights into:
- How the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) Initiative is reshaping care delivery
- The critical role anesthesia providers play in the development and implementation of a Perioperative Surgical Home (PSH) program and its positive effect on bundled payment initiatives
- Cost savings related to regional anesthesia and its vital role in successful bundled payment initiatives
- How ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and catheters facilitate total joint replacement using Early Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols by reducing pain, increasing ambulation and decreasing length of stay
Sonia Szlyk, M.D., is the Director of Regional Anesthesia, NAPA Mid-Atlantic. She has served as a clinical instructor in regional anesthesia at Stanford University Hospital in Stanford, CA. Dr. Szlyk is an accomplished lecturer and educator specializing in ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks and catheters. She is board-certified in anesthesiology and an active member of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
The Annual Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Meeting is a comprehensive meeting offering educational opportunities related to refresher courses, parallel sessions, hands-on workshops, ePosters and moderated sessions. A wide scope of clinically relevant topics will be discussed ranging from cutting-edge nerve block techniques and equipment to new and evolving pharmacologic options for perioperative use, as well as the rapidly evolving field of health care reform and how to optimize quality of care within the new healthcare delivery paradigm.
