New Office of Occupational & Environmental Medicine Opens in Islandia
ISLANDIA, NY – Representatives of Northwell Health (formerly North Shore-LIJ Health System) recently joined with local health, labor union and elected leaders to celebrate the opening of Northwell’s new office of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at 2950 Expressway Drive South, Suite 108, in Islandia.
Northwell Health operates two state-designated Occupational and Environmental Medicine clinical centers on Long Island, including a Nassau County-based office at 2035 Lakeville Road in New Hyde Park. The Suffolk County center in Islandia, formerly located in St. James, is more commuter-friendly with better accessibility via major roadways and more parking.
Services include medical surveillance examinations, first responder evaluations, pre-employment medical evaluations, workplace injury assessments (including workers’ compensation), mandated Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and commercial driver’s license (CDL) examinations, and environmental exposure assessments. With its team of board-certified occupational medicine physicians and other health care providers, Northwell Health’s Occupational and Environmental Medicine program continues to raise the bar to ensure a healthy workforce on Long Island.
The ribbon-cutting for the new Islandia facility was hosted by Ira Nash, MD, senior vice president and executive director of Northwell Health Physician Partners, and Jacqueline Moline, MD, Northwell Health’s vice president and chair of occupational medicine, epidemiology and prevention. Among the government officials, elected leaders and representatives from labor unions attending the event were:
- Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey, who also serves as chair of occupational and environmental medicine of Long Island ‘s Advisory Board, Teamsters Local 707;
- Suffolk County Health Commissioner James Tomarken, MD, Suffolk;
- Robert Beloten, chair of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board;
- State Assembly Members Al Graf and Andrew Raia;
- Joseph Canovas, special counsel at the New York State AFL-CIO;
- Suffolk County Legislator ThomasCilmi;
- David Googins, health program administrator at the state Department of Health’s Bureau of Occupational Health and Injury Prevention;
- Robert Morace, assistant area director for the state Department of Labor’s Long Island Area Office of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration; and
- Islandia Mayor Allan Dorman
