Northwell Signs Joint Venture with Melville Surgery Center
MELVILLE, NY – Northwell Health has signed a partnership agreement with Melville Surgery Center, a freestanding, multi-disciplinary, outpatient practice based at 1895 Walt Whitman Road. Northwell (formerly North Shore-LIJ Health System) will be acquiring a majority position in the center under a three-way ownership agreement with the Ambulatory Surgical Centers of America (ASCOA) and 15 physician owners.
The Melville Surgery Center specializes in general, gynecologic, ophthalmologic, orthopedic, plastic, podiatric, spine, urologic, chiropractic, pain management, and ear, nose and throat surgeries. With 60 surgeons credentialed to perform surgery there, the center cares for nearly 7000 patients annually. The 10,700-square-foot surgical center has four operating rooms, eight pre-operative stations, 13 post-operative stations and a procedure room.

The agreement marks the seventh joint venture that Northwell Health has signed with operators of ambulatory surgery centers, with plans to open up to 20 additional ambulatory surgical centers throughout the New York area over the next several years. The health system’s current ambulatory surgery joint venture partners include: SurgiCare of Manhattan, Endoscopy Center of Long Island in Garden City, Garden City SurgiCenter, South Shore Surgery Center in Bay Shore, Suffolk Surgery Center in Shirley and Digestive Health Center of Huntington. The latter two centers are awaiting final certificate of need (CON) approval from the state Department of Health.
