The firebox will be stoked hot enough to cook a sunny-side-up in seconds, and the eggcitement is building almost as fast as the steam – Easter has arrived at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for the start of its 2014 season, with the heritage railway on track to deliver hundreds of chocolatey treats.

Daily services on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway resume to and from Whitby this weekend (Saturday 5 April) for the main visitor season, with at least six services leaving every day from Pickering Station, 3 going to and from Whitby on the world’s most popular heritage railway, and eight per day from Saturday 12 April, when the Easter Eggspress will be running daily until 22 April.

Throughout the Easter bank holiday weekend (18-21 April), young visitors will be challenged to complete a trail, spotting clues at Pickering, Goathland and Grosmont Stations, before returning back to the Learning Centre at Pickering (between 10am – 3pm) to claim a delicious chocolate treat.

“With maintenance works along the line during the winter months, it feels fantastic to get the season underway and see trains once again running regular services along the tracks,” comments marketing manager, Danielle Ramsey.  “The Easter holidays are always a very busy time for the railway, as it is really the first opportunity people have to enjoy days out after the miserable winter months, and with daffodils and tulips blooming at the stations and in the villages along the line, it is a great time to hop aboard and explore the North York Moors.”

With services and stations expected to be busy during the Easter holiday, those wishing to travel are advised to pre-book their tickets before they travel.  Day rover tickets are priced from £19.00 for adults, £16.50 for seniors £9.50 for children and £42.00 for families (Pickering to Goathland/Grosmont – Whitby Prices Adult £25.00, senior £21.50, child £12.50, family £54.00), with a 15% discount currently available to those booking online using the code “ROVER15”.

2014 will be a particularly exciting time for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, with major work under way at Whitby Station to create a second platform, enabling more services per day to run the full length of the line, from Whitby to Pickering.  It is hoped that the work will be completed for the summer season, transporting more visitors than ever before along the scenic route from the coast to the moors.
