Pumpkin Trails from 26 October to 3 November

Halloween fun along the line on 31 October

Halloween has never been such frighteningly good fun as it will be this year on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, with a full day of wizardry fun along the line on 31 October, and Halloween-themed fun trails every other day during the half term holiday (26 October to 3 November 2013).

“We’re not just going to give children a treat on Halloween, with lots of fun activities to explore, from apple bobbing at Goathland to creepy crawlies and face painting in the education suite at Pickering station, but we’ve also got some tricks planned, courtesy of our ‘wizard’ who will be performing magic tricks throughout the day at Grosmont,” comments marketing manager, Danielle Ramsey.  “We’ve even got some fearsome falcons and owls taking up residence for the day at Levisham Station for visitors to hold and photograph.”

Indeed, those joining the 11am train from Pickering on Halloween morning will have an extra treat, as the magically-fun folk from Make A Wish Entertainment will transform the normal service into a Story Train, with costumed characters keeping passengers on their toes with a host of tricks and japes as they travel along the line in the dedicated carriages.  The advance tickets for the Witches & Wizards Story Train have all sold out, but some will be available from Pickering Station on the day.  Children are welcome to come along in their costumes, with a prize for the best-dressed passenger.  The Story Train returns to Pickering for 4.00pm.

Trick-or-treaters are invited to spend the day travelling up and down the line, stopping off at each station to enjoy the events and activities at each stop, or indeed, to break the journey with a spot of lunch.

Throughout the week, there will also be a ‘pumpkin and potion’ trail for young visitors to the heritage railway, challenging them to find a host of clues and jigsaw pieces hidden at stations along the line.  Five family tickets for a return visit to the railway in 2014 can be won by those completing the trail, all of whom will be entered into a draw from the witch’s cauldron at the end of the week.

Make A Wish Entertainment will also be back in November with winter story trains on the 9, 16 and 23 November. Tickets are also available for the Santa Specials services in November and December – a superb day out for the family, which includes meeting Santa in his mobile grotto on board the vintage steam trains as they travel from Pickering to Goathland and back again.  For more details, please visit www.nymr.co.uk
